5 tips on how to combine proper nutrition and travel

If you have a long journey ahead, and you adhere to the principles of proper nutrition, these recommendations will help you not to change your philosophy throughout the journey. Consider your diet in advance, whether you are traveling by plane or car, whether there are snack bars on your way, and whether you want to eat in them.

1. Avoid fast food

Travel is often closely related to food at gas stations or roadside cafes, where fatty and unhealthy food is often served: chips, crackers, waffles, burgers, french fries, sweet soda. It’s delicious, but completely useless. Within a couple of hours, you will again experience the feeling of hunger, as blood sugar will drop sharply.

For the same reason, do not pack with you such products purchased in advance in the supermarket. A relic of the past – boiled eggs with smoked sausage – also leave at home. There are so many alternatives to snacking now, and sausages are a high-calorie fat bomb.

2. An alternative to snacks

At the very beginning of the trip, you can have a snack with natural yoghurts, low-fat and without additives. Add berries or fruits there as desired. But remember that yogurt is a perishable product, so do not delay using it.

You can dine on boiled chicken fillet with whole grain bread. To keep such a sandwich longer, wrap it in foil portions. You can also add hard cheese and tuna.

You can always have a snack with fruits and nuts, as well as dried fruits and seeds. Wash the fruit thoroughly, and buy dried fruit in a trusted place to avoid digestive problems on the road.

While instant oatmeal is considered worthless compared to whole grains, it is still the best option on the road, as are a few teabags. At any gas station, you can ask for boiling water and steam yourself up a great snack.

Bring enough clean, non-carbonated water on the road, and juices for children. No alcohol or sweet soda!

3. Don’t be tempted

As with any diet, keep yourself in control. Do not be tempted by delicious and mouth-watering “picture” burgers or aromatic pastries. Get distracted and remember what your diet is for. Surely you have your own secrets on how to motivate yourself to hold on.

4. Pack correctly

To avoid spoilage of food, store it correctly and choose the right packaging. This can be foil, cling film, a plastic container with a lid. For vegetables and fruits, you can limit yourself to packages. Divide food into portions and pack each separately to prevent food from constantly coming into contact with light and air when opening and closing.

5. Buy the familiar

If all the provisions are over or you do not have time to prepare food in advance, buy the most familiar and familiar products on the way. Do not be tempted by exotic or discounted dubious goods. If you don’t like anything, go hungry – for sure at the next stop you will come across better food.

Have a nice trip! Be healthy!
