When it’s cold, we like to eat dishes that hold onto the body. But by consuming too much fat, sugars or alcohol, the kidneys and the liver, responsible for eliminating toxins, work harder. With, sometimes, the risk of saturating. Result: bloating, fatigue and a cloudy complexion. Stop, it’s time to act!

The good detox cure

Not easy to navigate among all the cures. Some exclude animal proteins, others dairy products, still others solid foods … It’s up to you to choose the one that suits you. But only if you are healthy and for a short time – one day a week, one day a month, for a few days, once or twice a year. Never too long, because by excluding certain foods, there is a risk of deficiencies. Thereby, better to avoid monodiet where you consume for a week only one food – grapes, cabbage… – and fasts where you drink only water and herbal teas. All of this puts a strain on the body. Of course, it draws on its reserves of sugars and fats, but the muscles melt at the same time. And when you resume normal eating, it stores more for another period of scarcity. Moreover, a detox is not made to lose weight. Of course, by limiting fatty, sweet and salty products, you will lose weight, but the goal is above all to restore the body to new condition. Quickly, you feel the benefits of this great cleansing: more pep, a clearer complexion, better digestion, a less bloated belly …

Regardless of the method, the basic principles are the same. First step: promote the elimination of toxins by drinking 1,5 to 2 liters of water per day. Alternate with green tea and herbal teas. Also good idea, a lemon juice with a little hot water in the morning on an empty stomach.

Load up on fruits and vegetables with homemade smoothies

Then think about ceat enough fruits and vegetables to stimulate the cleansing action of the liver and kidneys. Use it with every meal. Preferably organic to limit pesticides, and raw to retain as many nutrients as possible. If you digest them poorly, cook them in a wok or steam. The champions of elimination: broccoli, turnips, artichokes, endives, cucumbers, red fruits… Think of the detox drink par excellence: the smoothie.

If some brands offer turnkey juice-based cures: Dietox, Detox Delight…, you can do them yourself. For a balanced recipe, mix two fruits and one vegetable with 200 ml of water, coconut water or vegetable milk (soy, oats…). And, for a satiating effect, add chia seeds (in organic stores). To be consumed with breakfast or at 16 p.m. Also favor easily digestible proteins: white meats and fish. Note that starches such as quinoa, lentils, pasta or brown rice provide more nutrients than refined products. Add flavor by adding a dash of olive, rapeseed or walnut oil to your dishes, rich in essential fatty acids, which are particularly good for the skin. Spices and aromatics (turmeric, etc.) have diuretic, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Also to know, playing sport activates blood circulation and therefore expels toxins. Walk for at least 30 to 45 minutes a day. To be tested: yoga, Pilates, tai chi … The postures wake up the metabolism and stimulate the elimination organs. And fall for the hammam, sauna and massages which help the body to evacuate waste …
