Testimony: Allan’s unfiltered interview, @daddypoule on Instagram

He has 4 children (Chelsea, 11, Marc, 10, Nayan, 3, and Neïla, 9 months), 10 chickens, and plenty of humor in stock. Allan, alias Daddy Poule, told us about his life as a hyper-connected dad, in the open countryside.

Parents: Where do you raise your children (and chickens)?

Daddy Hen: In the middle of nowhere ! There isn’t even a bakery in our village. We are between Quimper and Concarneau. The neighbors are cows and that’s fine with me! It was what we wanted. Élodie, my wife, the mother of Nayan and Neïla (Chelsea and Marc are my children from a first union) is Breton, me too, and our parents are not far away. I lived in Paris, but frankly, I did not see myself there with children. And then, this choice allows us to have a large house, a plot of 3 m000 (I would point out that my wife loves to mow) and chickens!

From where this nickname on the networks of Daddy Poule?

Yes, in part! I have always loved chickens. They live with us. They each have a name, enter and exit. And then, I am very protective of my children, I cannot let go of them, papa hen, what! But the name was already taken so I thought of Cool Daddy and the sequel just happened.

How do you explain your success on Instagram?

I don’t know! I’ve been there since 2012, but I really started using it in June 2018. At first, I was just fooling around for friends, family. Then the sauce took. My stories are really crazy. While my posts are more serious, I talk about my family life, education. When we see the number of followers go up, we say to ourselves to do something interesting. But it takes a lot of work, I spend almost 40 hours a week. It’s a pleasure too, like having learned to make videos, to edit.

And four children, was that planned?

Not really ! I did not want a child at the base! I wanted to enjoy life, freedom. Then Chelsea arrived, it was not planned, I was 19 years old. But I assumed. I am the oldest of a family of five. My father was absent all my childhood. I supported my mother a lot, so I was used to the little ones. Over time, I understood that children were not a constraint, we can continue to live, to move forward with them!

What does a daddy hen look like on a daily basis?

I only work three days a week. I drop them off at school in the morning. I play with them when I can – football, console… – we cook, we go for a walk… I also take them to Paris when I am invited. But what they prefer is the photo. They’re the ones who do half of it on my Instagram account! In terms of organization, you have to be fairly square with four children. It is Élodie who manages, I act. She has the mental load, I took a bad little fold already. But sometimes, there are 10 in my head, luckily I have my Google calendar …

A tip to not crack when the children are difficult?

The hardest part is homework, they don’t understand such simple things! Not to mention Nayan’s anger. At 3 years old, he tests us constantly. When I have no more patience, I pass the baton to Élodie. Sometimes I take a walk outside. In my car also I decompress, I dance, I speak, it’s my moment! And not easy to keep all four at the same time … The little one still sleeps with us often … So some evenings, we put them to bed early to be both, take the time to have an aperitif, to discuss something other than the nightlife. family…

Projects in mind?

I am in the process of changing jobs… I am going to become a social media manager. After doing a multitude of different jobs! And then, we would not be against getting a little closer to the capital, towards Rennes for example, because I often go to Paris and that gives endless journeys. I would also like to go on stage because I understood with my videos

that it was what I preferred …
